| MARIA SHARAPOVA 2008 AUSTRALIAN OPEN CHAMPION |
Born in the heart of Siberia in the aftermath of Chernobyl, a beautiful and courageous Russian young maiden left her humble origins and set sail for Florida, America to take her place in the annals of tennis history, never imagining in her wildest dreams that she would set the world alight at the tender age of seventeen in the lush green surroundings of Wimbledon.
Now, as part athlete, part businesswoman, tennis superstar Maria Sharapova, nicknamed "The Siberian Siren", combines the perfect blend of beauty, elegance, sexiness and skill as she seeks to be an inspiration and role model to millions everywhere with the same passion, spirit and determination that makes her a champion both on and off the court.

Shock exit for Maria Sharapova
Maria Sharapova crashed out of the opening day of a Grand Slam for the first time today, suffering a shock 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 defeat by fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko.
The 14th seed planned to use the tournament as a catwalk for a series of new outfits after clinching a £42million clothing deal with Nike. She got to show only one - a strange dress described locally as "Peasant Chic".
After being beaten by the world No58, Sharapova said: "It's a b...

Sharapova thrives on underdog status
PARIS (Reuters) - Being the underdog suits Maria Sharapova at the French Open, where she enjoyed being backed by the fickle Parisian crowd in a 1-6 6-3 6-4 third round victory over Kazakh Yaroslava Shvedova on Friday.
In recent years the Russian has endured a torrid relationship with the Roland Garros fans and was famously booed off court when she was knocked out in 2007 and 2008.
But no longer the world number one, the 102nd ranked Russian seems to ...
